From screen to plate: food advertising, a global health issue.
Every day, hundreds of advertising messages would influence our food choices, often towards the fattiest, sweetest, saltiest products. Behind these screens, a reality is imposed: obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases... the link between food marketing and public health would no longer need to be demonstrated.
But how far could and should the government intervene? Prohibiting advertising for Nutri-Score D and E foods, making labeling mandatory, taxing the most harmful products: these options would be on the table. The food industry, on the other hand, would argue for individual responsibility and self-regulation.
Within the framework of the One Health initiative, which emphasizes that the health of humans, animals, and the planet is inseparable, this debate would raise a fundamental question: can we build a healthy food system if the dice are loaded from the start with advertising?
